Redfern and Waterloo Local ‘officials’……Can you rise to the Redfern Challenge?

Dear Friends,

As you are probably aware the Factory Community Centre in conjunction with the Redfern & Waterloo NAB Events Group are organising their annual family fun day events including Redfern Neighboughood Day and Summer on the Green. This year at Redfern Neighbourhood Day on Friday 23rd November at 3pm we are having a special feature event called "Dunk Your Local Officials".

Therefore we are writing to senior staff of state and local Government agencies and local community activists to rise to the challenge and have themselves publically dunked by our local community residents.

Sydney Business Awards 2012 Winner - Community and Social Services Thanks all

Dear friends,

In case you haven’t heard already, The Factory is pleased to announce that last night we won the Sydney Business Awards 2012 within the Community and Social Services category. This was extremely surprising given the outstanding caliber of the fellow finalists, who are all equally deserving. It is a great privilege and honour; to have our achievement’s recognised through these prestigious awards.

First of all I would like to acknowledge the support of the residents of Redfern, Waterloo and surrounding communities over the last 35 years. I also acknowledge the hard and dedicated work of our Staff (past and present) the volunteers and our management committee, for their passion, and commitment in striving to implement our mission. I thank all those who voted for us, and for the City of Sydney for hosting these awards.

The community sector particular small organisation like ourselves, struggle to be recognised, despite the huge difference we make to community life. We are faced with the same red tape and regulations as the commercial sector. In additional we wrestle with the burdens caused by unsecure funding, the often unnecessary and divisive competitive tendering processes, and duplicative accountability regulations to our funders and charity regulators. So it is important that our sector is viewed and recognised in the same way as the commercial sector and we thank the Sydney Business Awards, City of Sydney and their sponsors for recognising our sectors contribution.

In addition we like to thank our partner agencies from across the sectors that are diverse and to many to list, However we appreciate them all for their support for our work in terms of funding, sharing their resources, expertise and working with us in the various projects/services which we run. We really appreciate your continued support, and we look forward to working with you in the future as we continue to try and make difference in the communities we serve. With much gratitude,

Yours Sincerely

Mike and the Factory Team

Member for Heffron, The Hon Kristina Keneally MP - Lift Redfern

Member for Heffron, The Hon Kristina Keneally MP, will today accept a petition of over 10,000 signatures from the community campaign group "Lift Redfern: Make Redfern Station Accessible Now."

"I congratulate the campaigners on a successful month-long effort to collect enough signatures to force the O'Farrell Government to debate the future of Redfern Station in the Parliament," Ms Keneally said.

"As a local member, I wholeheartedly endorse and support this campaign. There is no doubt that Redfern Station, one of the city's busiest, needs a lift that provides access for the elderly, parents with prams, and people who rely on wheelchairs and other mobility aids."

donate generously together we can help Australia′s homeless

The Factory is looking for your support

Dear partners,

We are writing to ask for your support of the factory’s involvement in the Vinnie’s CEO Sleep out campaign.
Our Executive officer Michael Shreenan along with one of our Board Members Laura Kelly will be partaking in the event to raise money forthis worthy cause.
As charity ourselves, we understand the importance of fund-raising for causes and projects, and we strongly believe this cause is worthy of everyone’s support.
Vinnies CEO Sleep out is a national annual event that encourages Australian business leaders to Rise to the Challenge of homelessness by sleeping out for one night to raise awareness about homelessness. 2012 Vinnies CEO Sleep out is on the 21st June. CEOs and Managing Directors receive sponsorship from employees, colleagues, friends and family. The funds raised go to support Vinnies homeless initiatives across Australia.
With only nine weeks until the 2012 Vinnie’s CEO Sleep out, the first snap of cold and rain has arrived as a teaser!
Did you know that over 105,000 men, women, and children sleep out across Australia each night?
The Factory receives many enquiries from Homeless people and those that are at risk of homelessness and relies on assistance form larger organisations such as Vinnies to provide support and assistance in these cases.
Our EO also has some experience of being homeless himself in his younger years and therefore knows all too well about the struggles that Homeless people face day in and day out.
We would encourage you where possible to show you support by donating to the cause online by clicking the following link.
Or if you are a CEO yourself why not join Mike in ‘Rising to the challenge’ ?
So please show your support and donate generously together we can help Australia′s homeless

Thanks
From all at The Factory Team
