Seasons Greetings

On behalf of the Factory Community Centre Staff, Volunteers and Board of Management, we would like to thank you all for your constant support and involvement in our programs throughout 2010.  Without the help and assistance of many of our partner agencies, volunteers and our funders we wouldn’t have been able to achieve the many great outcomes that have taken place over the last year.

As many of you will be aware, Patrick Russell has retired from the Factory Community Centre after ten long and successful years as our fearless manager, we recognised his sense of humour, wisdom and contributions to our community, at the same time our team is enormously thankful for his solid legacies, happy memories and the community values that he established in our team, we will miss him and continue his valuable work.

As we say good-bye to Patrick, I have been given the opportunity and privilege to take over the Coordination role for which, I am very enthusiastic about the work and contributions that our team can make in the future.

During this year we also welcome Edith Olivares to our team as the new Community Development Worker for Redfern and Waterloo under the Housing Communities Program. Her email contact for your records is eolivares@the-factory.org.au.

I personally want to thank everyone as well for their support during my four years in the above role and I am sure you find Edith to be of excellent value as she continues to build on the HCAP programs work.

We hope you enjoy the summer break, please accept our best wishes for you all in 2011, and the Factory Team is looking forward to working with you all again in the New Year.
Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!

Best Regards,
Mike Shreenan and the Factory Community Centre

Dont forget Festival Planning Day Tomorrow!

Calling all children workers, event organisers, fund raisers, and community arts workers – we need your help and expertise.
The Factory Community Centre has a 30 year history of engaging artists in community development projects.
In October 2012, along with our partners we will host the 12th World Festival of Children’s Theatre.
Kids from all over the world will come to Australia to perform together, do workshops together and most importantly make best friends for life.

And where will this happen?

- At Cockatoo Island, in the middle of Sydney Harbour...sleeping in tents, under the southern sky.
This is the dream...
So, if you are a community artist, local businessman, director, writer, performer, financier, critic, manager, musician, dancer, fundraiser, youth leader... young or young at heart... and would like to help make this dream  become a reality, join us for a day of brainstorming, sharing

ideas, workshoping and planning as we make our dream ... a festival like no other.

When: Saturday 20th November 2010
Time:  9 am – 2 pm
Where: Factory Community Centre, 67 Raglan Street, Waterloo, NSW 2017

Farewell Patrick at Tudor this Friday!

Reminder: This month’s informal gathering is a chance to join us to celebrate Patrick's ten years at the factory  hope you can join us....

Friday – 29th October  @ Tudor Hotel @ 1pm
As usual, on the last Friday of the month, we invite agencies and community groups reps and volunteers to come together for an informal lunch time ‘get -together’.  We normally meet at the Norfolk Hotel, however they are closed at the moment; therefore we will be meeting at the Tudor Hotel. (Beer Garden if Dry – indoors if wet).  It is a great chance to take time out of our busy schedules and catch up with each other, sharing news, and information informally. Buy your own refreshments and lunch and you can stay as short or as long as time will allow. The next two are particular special and we hope you will be able to attend.

Note: At the October Gathering we will be marking the end of era, with  Patrick Russell - The Factory’s current coordinator, with over ten years service to the Waterloo and Redfern community, he is about to commence his forthcoming Long Service Leave and Retirement

So, we would like to invite all those who know of Patrick’s outstanding work here at the Factory, to join us in celebrating and recognising his achievements. (In addition, it’s also Mike's Birthday!! ) . Our November gathering will be our last Gathering event of 2010.
