The Factory Community Centre, a small but effective Non-Government agency working within Redfern and Waterloo, is seeking a Harm reduction Outreach worker to join their support team. The outreach worker will work with the local community and our partner agencies to develop, deliver, and oversee an outreach support programme targeting ‘hard to reach’ residents with a particular emphasis on those who may have substance misuse challenges.
This is a Full Time position (with option of job share and flexible hours), funded for one year by the Australian Governments - Federal Attorney General’s Department, and supported by Waterloo, Neighbourhood Advisory Board, Safety Action Group, Redfern and Waterloo Community Drug Action Team, the Redfern Waterloo Authority and various NSW Government and non-Government Human Services.
Ideally you will come from a community support & development background, with experience in working with complex needs and substance misuse, and have the ability to work effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders.
To be considered for this position you will have the following:
  • Proven track record in working with complex needs and the ability to work autonomously
  • Experienced in one on one support work, case management, group work and events management
  • Ability to network, and engage a diverse range of service providers match with the ability to engage wider community support and ensure resident involvement of the project plan/delivery.
  • Skilled at conflict management and diffusion techniques
  • Good street awareness and knowledge of the local area
  • Knowledge and experience equivalent to very team skilled member and or certificate 4 in relevant studies and can demonstrate a full range of competencies related to the position description
  • High level interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong ‘clinical’ boundaries are essential
  • Sound awareness of OHS in relation to outreach work
