It was with great sadness that the local inner city community received the news of Trevor Davies’ sudden passing last week. Trevor was a member and Elder of South Sydney Uniting Church, the founding editor of the South Sydney Herald and long-time Secretary of the Darlington ALP Branch. Trevor was one of the foundation members of REDWatch and was known to very many people within the local community. Trevor had only just celebrated his 55th birthday.

A Funeral Service for Trevor Davies is to be held on Thursday, June 23 at 10:00am at the Pitt Street Uniting Church, 264 Pitt St, Sydney. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to South Sydney Herald - BSB 062 231; Account No. 1021 8391.

Our Future Community – The Challenge of Change
Inner Sydney Regional Council will be hosting the Our Future Community – The Challenge of Change conference on July 20th 2011. The conference will look at the challenges faced by the NGO sector as we move into the next decade.

The event is to be held at Sydney Town Hall and will be facilitated by Helen Campbell OAM, with Eva Cox as the Keynote Speaker. For more information, contact Char Jones on char.jones@innersydneyrcsd.org.au or call Inner Sydney Regional Council on 9698 7690.
Australian Mobile phone numbers are going public next month. All mobile phone numbers are being released to telemarketing companies and you will start to receive sale calls. Depending on your provider and plan, you can be charged for these calls.

The Australian Communications and Media Authority have a Do Not Call register. You can access the register at https://www.donotcall.gov.au. The link allows you to enter your phone numbers to put an end to telemarketing calls.


Randwick City Council will be holding a free full day Playwriting and Performance Workshop on Saturday 2nd July from 10am to 4pm at Bowen Library and Community Centre, 669-376 Anzac Parade Maroubra.

Anyone with an interest in writing and performing for the theatre should rush to this fantastic workshop which will be facilitated by acclaimed playwright Hilary Bell and actor/director Bill Conn. To participate you must register your interest by Thursday 23 June 2011. The Influenza Specialist Group (ISG) is a not-for-profit organisation made up of leading medical and scientific specialists from Australia and New Zealand, who have particular expertise in infectious and respiratory diseases and virology, and is a prime source of information on influenza.

St Vincent’s Hospital Psychogeriatric Mental Health Service is holding a community education forum on Depression and Older Adults on Thursday 14th July at 10.30am-12.30pm at the National Australia Bank Auditorium, Garvan Medical Research Institute, entrance at the corner of Burton and West Sts Darlinghurst.

The forum is targeted at adults (older or otherwise) living in the community that would like to know more about the incidence of depression in older adults, and what treatments and preventative strategies are available. Various team members (doctors, psychologists, nurses and social workers) will be presenting and available for questions and discussion on the day.

Waste Management Workshop
Not sure what goes in what bin? Ever wonder where all that waste goes and if we are running out of space to put it? Then come along for FREE Sustainable Food, followed by City of Sydney Over 55 Services & SAVE’s FREE Waste Workshop

When: Tuesday 28 June 2011, 1pm – 4pm (refreshments provided)
Where: Redfern Oval Community Room (51 Redfern Street,  Redfern)

There will also be a short session on natural cleaning. Learn how to reduce the cost of buying expensive cleaning products and how to reduce your waste by having less products around the house.

Inner Sydney Regional Council is currently seeking an Administrative Officer for 25 hrs a week. Duties include telephone and reception duties, administrative support for staff, correspondence and assisting in the management of meetings and events. For more information about this position contact Pam Marsh on pam.marsh@innersydneyrcsd.org.au

The organisation is also seeking two short-term part time project officers.
The first project is a Social History project, managing the exhibition, collating and identification of photos and assisting in the archiving of this material. This position is 10 hrs per week over 6 weeks.

The second project is managing the production of a medical booklet. This position is for 14hrs a week over 3 months.
